COPD or Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder has become increasingly popular among adults. The National Institute on Deception describes COPD as a progressive disease that makes it increasingly difficult for the individual to breathe, causing them to suffer shortness of breath and coughing. COPD affects the respiratory system by causing scarring in the airways that makes it hard for the individual to breathe out of their mouths. COPD can eventually lead to emphysema, lung cancer and chronic fatigue syndrome.
COPD can result from a number of different underlying conditions including chronic bronchitis, emphysema and lung cancer. The main methods of treatment include using medication, known as bronchodilators, or more commonly, inhaling and exhaling medications such as Advair, Serevent and Bronchodilators. The most common types of medicine used to treat COPD include albuterol, eltrombopag and ipratropium. However, these medicines only provide temporary relief and do not eliminate the cause of COPD. They also cause serious side effects and may cause a relapse of the condition after a few years.
